Hosted by President Joyce Banda of Malawi, the 2014 African Leaders Forum on Intellectual Disability will call upon Heads of State, First Ladies, and Ministers from African governments to join Malawi in turning the tide for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
In support of the Malawian National Disability Act and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities (CRPD), President Banda is committed to working with key development organizations, including Special Olympics, to integrate people with intellectual disabilities more fully into their communities and to bring their interests to the forefront of development strategies, targets and goals pursued by African governmental and civil society organizations.
Mobilize key Heads of State, civil society, and private sector leadership action in support of inclusiveness programming in Africa.
Build awareness of the challenges and opportunities of Intellectual Disability inclusiveness.
Cultivate private sector support for the Malawi Summit and open pathways for sustained private sector funding for ID programming across Africa.
